Family History
The roots of my immediate branch of the Huxley family are in Shropshire and the old Hundred of Maelor - a small detached part of Flintshire that once was surrounded by Shropshire but is now part of the Wrexham Mealor District. In his biography of his own famous father, Leonard Huxley states that the family is supposed to have originated at the village of Huxley, near Chester, but spread out, some going to various parts of the county, the Welsh borders (as my branch did) and even further, the most celebrated branch ending up in London, via Lichfield and Coventry. From existing records it has been possible to trace the following direct line:-
JOSEPH Huxley married ANN Butler at Wem, Shropshire, in 1808. They had eight children including JOSEPH | JOSEPH, born 1817, married Ann Kynaston at Prees, Shropshire, in 1843. They had ten children including JOSIAH LEVI | JOSIAH LEVI born 1858 married Hannah Moors at Odd Rode, Cheshire in 1890. They had nine children including JOSEPH | JOSEPH, born 1907, married Dorothy Ward at Paignton, Devon in 1932. They had five children including DAVID | DAVID, born 1936, married Jean Sanderson at Cheadle, Cheshire in 1975. (Jean died in 2016)
